One of my favourite things is to travel. Since we lived on a dairy farm when I was a kid, we were unable to travel very far from home. Every other year, we would travel out of state to visit relatives, and we also went on day vacations. It wasn’t until I graduated from college that I began to travel. Since that time, I have travelled extensively, and I aspire to visit all fifty states in the United States at some point in my life.

I didn’t have much money to travel with when I initially graduated from college. At the time, petrol was inexpensive, so my girlfriend and I would drive to different states. To save money, we would camp one night and spend the other night in hotels. Since it was a pain to put up and take down a campground every day and we did not get much sleep, we did not camp every night. Over the course of our two years of travelling together, we visited various states.

After that, we stopped travelling together since we were married and had kids. We have more time now that our kids are grown up to rekindle our friendships. A few weeks ago, she gave me a call and asked if I would want to take a road trip. For me, this sounded like a lot of fun. New Mexico was one destination we had not had the opportunity to visit. It was one of the few states in the West that I had not yet visited. We agreed to investigate camping in New Mexico. We live in a lovely pop-up caravan with my spouse. Because of its modest weight, it is easy to tow with a car. I brought my laptop computer to our coffee date so we could research camping locations in New Mexico. We made the decision to travel in early May in order to avoid being away during the peak camping season. By choosing May, we were able to avoid snowbirds, spring holidays, and families with children in school.

We wanted to visit a few of the intriguing locations we found. For the remainder of our New Mexico camping trip, we planned to camp in random locations that caught our attention, but we made reservations at one place that suggested having them. Our husbands believed that staying in campgrounds was ridiculous. Both of them suggested that we instead stay in hotels. They believed that we wouldn’t have to move the camper and all of our equipment, and that hotels would be safer. After discussing this, my girlfriend and I concluded that staying in hotels would be more convenient and comfortable. Without having to deal with camping, we could still view the same places of interest. We promised one another that we wouldn’t alter our plans since we’re getting older!
